She shocked me when she slammed the table

What’s YOUR Story?

She shocked me when she slammed the table.

The women’s fitness center was where I was going to lead a self defense workshop. It was about to become the site of an unexpected impact.

The curious woman across the promotions table.
My grey and blue branded shirt.
My confidence, crumbling.

I remember how confused I felt because I was never the same afterwards.

I ran a successful business teaching self defense in Boston for years.

While I loved to teach, my #1 reason for starting the business was my mentor. He was a unique pioneer in his field. I owed him so much and wanted to give back.

He had a one-in-a-million story. He had made a significant contribution and changed the course of the martial arts world.

I thought my brain and passions could help him share his unique message with more people. I wanted him to be great again. Greater, even.

As a self-defense teacher and entrepreneur, I was successful enough and it was fun. I gave and received so much!

The corporate trainings and adult education courses were popular. I spoke internationally and had smart private clients.

Lots of people were feeling strong and empowered.

But something didn’t feel right for me. I wasn’t gaining traction beyond a point and I didn’t know why.

Then at the fitness center that day, I talked. I explained everything about the creator of this great system. And the system WAS great. He WAS great.

But she stopped me mid-sentence as she slammed her hand.

She shocked me with her stare and said:

“HE’s not here, who are YOU?”

— -

I didn’t have much to say. She walked away.

This was the beginning of the end and I spent days in a stupor.

Who WAS I?

Was I doing this for him? Or me? Or what?

What was MY story?

Her question woke me up, but it was my question that started something magical.

Within a few weeks, I received an invitation to teach self-defense at a high-end sports club. This let me experiment with my own voice, offers and ideas. Soon I let self-defense go as I followed a different flow — my own.

Personal training led to meditation teaching led to mobility expertise and yoga teaching which led to QUESTIONS I WANTED TO ANSWER FOR MYSELF.

Which led to a Masters in Conscious Evolution and Embodiment and Epicness…

Which led to a non-traditional marriage in Bali which led to moving to California then Hawaii and so much more…

I could go on but here’s the thing:

One question sparked 15 years of path discovery continues.

“What’s MY story?”

— -

This month is 4th anniversary of when I was on the floor, in despair, bawling, as rock-bottom as I ever got…

It was then that I received the inspiration that became The Epic Map and refined my path and created so much magic.

THIS month I am celebrating that special milestone.

Can I ask about your story?

Do you know someone trapped on a path living for anyone else?

Are you trying hard but know deep down that it’s about someone else’s story and not 100% your own?

Your story is the magical one.

Discover it. Master it. Follow it.

What is YOUR story?
